The film follows Frank Cotton, who opens a mysterious puzzle box and is transported into a dimension inhabited by the Cenobites. Based on Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart, Hellraiser became one of the defining supernatural horror films of the 1980s, introducing Pinhead and the Cenobites to horror cinema.
